Herno is a historic Italian brand that was born more than seventy years ago, in 1948, on the shores of Lake Maggiore. The spouses Giuseppe Marenzi e Alexandra Diana partly out of necessity and partly out of inventiveness, they immediately specialized in the production of raincoats and coats suitable for the humid and rainy climate of the lake. It is no coincidence that the name of their company pays homage to one of the tributaries of Lake Maggiore, the Erno river, to which an acca has been added which recalls water and which immediately gives a more international air to the brand: a sign of an ambition that will lead the brand to establish itself throughout the world in the decades to come.

Giuseppe Marenzi's idea didn't come from nowhere: already after the war he worked for coat companies and invented a method of waterproofing fabrics that used castor oil, an abundant and cheap resource also used to produce fuels. Mrs. Alessandra sews the raincoats that Giuseppe sells in the small shop in Lesa, in the province of Novara. Business was going well and in less than twenty years Herno began exporting to Europe too cashmere coats for men and women, still a cornerstone of the brand. The first store in Osaka, Japan opened in 1980, followed by others in the United States. In the 90s Herno was now an established brand, supplying companies such as Prada, Jill Sanders, Armani e Louis Vuitton

With the new millennium also begins the new course of Herno. Claudio Marenzi, son of Giuseppe and Alessandra, takes the reins of the family business, where he has worked since he was 20 years old. Under his leadership, Herno strengthens exports abroad (Japan first and foremost), decreases supplies to other fashion houses and places emphasis on the creation of new original garments and presides over every aspect of production, starting from the choice of fabrics and materials.

Herno now offers an elegant collection of outerwear that allows you to face any climate and do so with impeccable style. On the Herno outlet of Milan Sample Sale you will find

HERNO OUTLET - STYLE IN WINTER CLOTHING

The big problem with winter fashion is often that of finding yourself uncomfortable and bundled up as if you were going trekking in the Alps and not in the office on a rainy November day. Herno has solved this problem by creating warm and dry garments, but at the same time comfortable and elegant or to put it in the words of the president Claudio Marenzi, dresses “aesthetically beautiful, but also functional”. Herno's outerwear is always made using cutting-edge, light and breathable materials and with an eye on the environment.

Among Herno's most famous creations is the half down jacket, half waterproof, born from an idea of the same Marenzi:

By chance one day when I was in Japan for work, it was raining but I was cold, so I tucked in a down jacket bought locally, under one of our raincoats...

Another great success of the brand are the down jackets Ultralight, ultra light, in nylon and without down bag. The search for increasingly advanced technologies and raw materials is one of Herno's objectives, which in 2012 began a collaboration with Gore from which it was born Herno Laminar, a sartorial engineering project that represents the most technological line of the brand.

HERNO OUTLET - SUSTAINABILITY ELEGANCE AND INNOVATION

However, Herno also cares about the sustainability of its garments and its production and for more than 10 years the company has invested in photovoltaics, in new, more eco-friendly machinery and in the project that sees the garments traced at every step of the production chain, from yarn to distribution.

How many ways do we have to be sustainable?

This is the claim with which the new line was launched in 2020 Herno Globe. Four projects in which the men's and women's collections have in common the attention to sustainability. Fast5Degradable it is the first of these. Two models, bomber e coat entirely biodegradable accessories included. Normal outerwear using synthetic materials takes around 50 years to fully degrade. Instead, thanks to the use of a special material designed exclusively for Herno, these duvets are completely absorbed by the environment in just 5 years.

I oversized coats of the collection Recycled Wool, as the name itself suggests, are instead made with waste materials deriving from the textile industries which give the garments a characteristic mélange effect. Nylon is also recovered: the Recycled Onibeige Nylon not only is it produced with recovered waste, but it contains a membrane made with 50% biological material deriving from corn. The dyes are also produced with a portion of natural components such as onion peel, olives for the greens, indigo for the blue tones, and bamboo charcoal for the shades of grey. I coats and i parka of this line are padded - it goes without saying - with recycled down.

The latest of Herno's sustainable projects (last only in chronological order) is called 100% regenerated Econyl® nylon, a fiber entirely obtained from recycled and waste materials. To create it, disused fishing nets and industrial waste of synthetic fabrics such as carpets and rugs that would otherwise be destined for landfill are used. The two reference items in this case are a bomber jacket in pure 80s style and a parka whose padding is obtained from bed duvets.

The care and attention that the brand places in the production of eco-sustainable garments can be seen in the details: even the zips, buttons and even the labels on these clothes come from recycled materials! Herno has found the ideal solution for all of us who in winter would like to be elegant, warm, dry, but also attentive to the environment.
